I missed the Janmashtami greetings on 2nd September, so here it is! The day when the first layer of clay is applied on the Goddess’s frame and the day when Lord Krishna took birth.
Mahalaya is the first day of Devipaksha, fortnight of the Goddess, the day when the Goddess opens her eyes and looks at us. This ceremony is called chakshudan.
Apart from that Hindu men offer their ancestors homage on this dawn, that is called tarpan.
So in gist it is quite an important date in Hindu calendar!
Wish you all a very blessed Mahalaya and Durgapuja!
