Gulzar
Born August 18, 1934
He was born in a Sikh family in Dina, now in Pakistan, his family relocated to India after partition of India and Pakistan. His career as a lyricist started with legendary movie Bandini, where he wrote one song- one of my forever favorites, sung by Lata Mangeshkar, it is a very soft love song, “Mora gora ang lai le” but he got his well deserved fame after he wrote (one of my hottest favorite songs) for movie Khamoshi, “Hamne dekhi hai un ankhon kee mahakti khusbu.” You know there are those songs that make you repeat again and again “What a lyric!” as if once is not enough- this is one of those songs to me. Please please read the lyrics of this song if you can in hindi or English whatever language you can manage in. This is just one specimen of his penmanship’s magic! There are too many songs of him that fit in that category.
Now if you sit down with red ink pen you will find many faults in his lyrics, honestly, quite often he played with nonsense but created a beautiful song, so, you will have to hear them with open mind and accept his playfulness to adore his songs.
NOTE: There is not much to say about it, I think in this series I will just open their pages in internet, pick up the things that I have loved about them and share them with you. At the end mention the site which gave me the information.
In this case it is of course good old Wikipedia. You can check out desiblitz.com in case it has something extra to offer.
