Amol Palekar (24th November 1944)
Vidya Sinha (November 15, 1947)/Zarina Wahab (17th July 1959)
Deepti Naval (February 3rd, 1957)
Farooq Sheikh (March 25, 1948 to 27th December 2013).
Amol Palekar and Vidya Sinha/Zarina Wahab ruled the art movies screen when I was a child, I much much loved this gentle, sophisticated man and these two ladies he often paired up with, and still do- that is I still love these two couples! They somehow made a fabulous couple. Some movies where they were together – Gharonda, Chitchor, Rajnigandha, chhoti si baat.
Amol Palekar also paired up with my other favorite screen pair Deepti Naval and Farroq Sheikh and gave some brilliant performances. His leading ladies changed in those movies though.
These pairs acted in movies that were more realistic, when it came to love. Quite realistic to be precise! That is why it took me some maturity to actually appreciate the roles they were playing. It was lucky for viewers like me that back then there was a percentage of viewers who liked matured movies! I wonder where that group is gone shifted to Hollywood movies like I have? The group that was the wind beneath the art movies’ wings!
Deepti Naval and Farooq Sheikh were my favorite when I was in my youth, they, Amol Palekar, Utpal Dutt and Hrishikesh Mukherjee (director) have given some divine movies like Rang birangi, kisi se na kehne, chashme baddoor. These two, just like the first two combinations were so fabulous together!
Now, don’t think that these romantic pairs ran around the trees and belted out romantic numbers for you while their parents drew swords at each other. The movies they have acted in are quite versatile, some are as light as feather, others are so deep that you won’t forget them! All about the dark alleys of human brain or mysterious maze of human mind!
They did sang songs but mostly strolling around and can’t recollect them dancing around the trees or anywhere for that matter! Phew!
NOTE: There is not much to say about it, I think in this series I will just open their pages in internet, pick up the things that I have loved about them and share them with you. At the end mention the site which gave me the information.
In this case it is of course good old Wikipedia.
